The Latest Multimedia Research from ISM 2016

W e are pleased to present this special issue of invited papers from the IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM), which was held in San Jose, California, 11–13 December 2016. As in past years, this collaboration between IEEE MultiMedia and the ISM organizers facilitates the processing of extended versions of the top 10 ISM papers through a fast-track review and publication schedule. We invited authors of the top 10 ISM papers, as ranked by ISM reviewers and program chairs, to submit to this special issue an extended version of their work, citing the original ISM paper and clearly showing the additional extension material. These 10 papers consisted of the seven “Best Paper” candidates, plus the next three highest ranked papers. After a rigorous review process, we are pleased to present the following six papers in this special issue.
